Winfrey has announced the publication of a new Prince Harry documentary later this month.
After being postponed, Oprah Winfrey has announced that her latest mental health series with Prince Harry will be published this month.
Last week, Oprah spoke about her program on CBS’ The Drew Barrymore Show.
“I want to also mention that Dr Perry and I have both, for the past two years, along with Prince Harry and Apple, we’ve been working on this mental health series that’s coming out in May on Apple,” Oprah said on the talk show, alongside US psychiatrist Dr. Bruce D. Perry.
The talk show host said that she wanted to emphasize the importance of using one’s own life “to support” others with theirs.
Oprah and Prince Harry have collaborated on this project for a number of years.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s communications staff revealed in 2019 that Harry will collaborate with Oprah Winfrey on a documentary series about mental health.
Oprah also said that she had collaborated with Prince Harry in the past.
Oprah discussed the series briefly during her interview with Harry and Meghan, which aired on ITV in March, after Meghan admitted to having suicidal thoughts while pregnant with her first son Archie.
“Nobody should have to go through that,” Oprah said after Meghan Markle talked about her ordeal.
“And, you know, Harry and I are working on this mental health series for Apple, and yeah, we hear a lot of these stories,” the American host continued.
The mental health documentary was supposed to be released in 2020, but it has most likely been postponed due to the pandemic.
“The dynamic multi-part documentary series will concentrate on both mental illness and mental health, encouraging audiences to have a frank dialogue about the struggles each of us faces, and how to empower ourselves with the resources to not only survive, but to thrive,” the royal communication team said at the time.
“This dedication builds on The Duke of Sussex’s long-standing work on mental health problems and programs, in which he has openly expressed personal experience and campaigned for those who struggle silently, inspiring them to receive the care and support they deserve.”
“His Royal Highness has spent several years engaging with communities across the UK and young people across the Commonwealth to smash the stigma around mental illness and expand the dialogue around mental health in order to promote progress for a more caring, connected, and healthy community,” says the statement.
“I sincerely believe that good mental health – mental wellbeing – is the secret to powerful leadership, positive societies, and a purpose-driven self,” Prince Harry said of his willingness to participate in the show.
“It’s a big responsibility to get this right because we’re bringing you the truth, research, and knowledge of a topic that’s so important in these days.”
“Our hope is that this series will be encouraging, enlightening, and inclusive, sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit battling back from the darkest places, and providing us with the opportunity to better understand ourselves and those around us,” he added.
“I am ecstatic to be working on this important series with Oprah.”
