Will This Train Be Affordable For The Masses As FG Open Lagos/Ibadan Railway System?
It was about one day ago that the Nigerian government open a new railway system. The railway is targeted at interstate movement between Lagos and Ibadan.
Apart from the new train’s luxury, it is generally accepted that railways are safer from incessant accidents and unwanted highway brigands attacks.
On the other way round, the present railway is very extortionate as the fare is #3000 per trip and I am sure that it will be tough for a common man to afford.
For instance, transport fare to Ibadan from Berger bus-stop is usually below #2000, even from Oshodi bus-stop.
At Berger bus-stop, one would see some that are as cheap as #1000 or #800, but the transport fare for the railway is #3000 from Lagos to Ibadan.
In some developing countries, the railway is the cheapest means of transportation because it is targeted at the masses who cannot afford extortionate transport.
Thus the Nigerian government should rethink and get the fare to reduce to as low as #1000, which will enable both the rich and the poor to access.
