In a current interview by the BBC Yoruba, the king of Shomolu Bariga, Oba Gbolahan Timson spoke extensively about the condition of insecurity in Nigeria and the Yoruba entirely.
The King compared the present art of war to the period of Lisabi, Ogedengbe, and many other Yoruba warriors in the past.
In his words, he made mention of Sunday Igboho. He says Sunday Igboho is a Yoruba warrior who rose to prominence after the death of one of his brothers, Dr. Fatai Aborode, who was killed on his farm by the notorious killer herdsmen.
The King explained that it was the death of the man that triggered the actions of Sunday Igbogo and the entire Yoruba people because if they fail to act immediately, no one knows who will be the next.
He says he supports Sunday Igboho’s action because he is looking for a way to free his people from injustice, oppression, and lawlessness.
He went on to say that the Yorubas must support Sunday Igboho’s agitation because it is too late to restructure Nigeria. He claims that Sunday Igboho has dedicated his life to fighting for his people’s liberation and that the Yorubas must not betray him as they have betrayed some ancestors such as Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, Ogedengbe Agbogunro, and others.
He when on to say, there is a curse that was put on the Yoruba race by these 6aforementioned warriors because they were betrayed.
He went forth to narrate how Lisabi stood to fight for his Yoruba people. He said Lisa purposely killed his family and destroyed all his properties because he believed that if he went to war his mind would remember them, so he killed them all to fully commit himself to the task.
As a result, he went to war, and when his people saw that he was on the verge of conquering all Yorubaland and was about to capture even Oyo, the centralized Yoruba kingdom, they conspired amongst themselves that if he eventually conquered all of Yorubaland, they would be in danger, so they summoned him to return.
When he arrived, they told him to renounce his decision to capture Oyo, but Lisa was surprised to hear that because his mission was to conquer Oyo because of their barbaric law that they imposed on all of Yorubaland; one of the laws is that before a woman can be free to marry, she must be defiled by one of the chiefs in the Oyo Kingdom; the law sounded absurd to Lisa, which is why he revolted.
However, it was unbeknownst to them that Lisabi knew that they had planned on how he would be killed. That was how Lisabi placed a curse on them, then the king compared Lisabi’s betrayer to that of Alaafin Aole, who was also betrayed in Oyo, and concluded that the curses from Lisa and Aole are affecting the Yorubas, and the only way to lift the curses on all the Yorubas is to follow his advice.
He went further to explain that the traces of the curses could be observed when a Yoruba politician and philanthropist, MKO Abiola, won an election in 1993. He did not acquire the post but it was given to Shonekan who did not suffer for it. He said all this happened because the curse is still affecting the Yorubas.
Consequently, he said all the kings in the Yoruba should consult the Ifa Oracle in one day, and whatever solutions that come forth should be done on the same day. By so doing, all the curses will be removed.
