Following the ban of the microblogging site Twitter in Nigeria by the Federal government of Nigeria. Twitter as well as other organization and individuals across the world have sent messages of support to Nigerians and call on the government of Nigeria to backtrack on its decision.

“We are deeply concerned by the blocking of Twitter in Nigeria. Access to the free and #OpenInternet is an essential human right in modern society.
We will work to restore access for all those in Nigeria who rely on Twitter to communicate and connect with the world. #KeepitOn”

Twitter was the ultimate galvanizing platform for #EndSARS protesters, and the importance of connectivity cannot be understated.

The buhari led administration had on Friday 4th of June, 2021 announced that it has placed a ban on the social media microblog Twitter following the use of the platform to pass messages that are capable of causing insurrection in the country.

The ban on Twitter by the federal government of Nigeria is not unrelated to the pulling down of President Muhammed buhari tweets about dealing with those causing unrest in the South-east and around the country. in a tweet the President has said that those responsible for the spite of violence and attack on government facilities will be made to face the music, sighting the 30-months Nigeria civil war. Nigerians in their mass reported the tweets as a genocidal tweet against the Igbos, which saw to the pulling down of the message by Twitter.

Nigerians across the country have turned to the use of VPNs to change their locations to allow them to continue using Twitter. VPN-related searches on Google from Nigeria have reached an all-time high following the Federal Government Twitter ban and possibly other digital platforms.
