Top 4 Amenities That Lagosians Needs To Benefit That The Government Fail To provide
Lagos state is known for its sobriquet being the mega-city, but it seems the name is working against the state as many of the amenities that most Lagosians are supposed to enjoy are not fulfilled by the government.
In most countries, the megacities are known for different unique features: Such as good roads, transports, monuments, and affordable lifestyle. But the case of Nigeria is different, many foreigners are enjoying the best of zest, while the citizens are almost their slaves.
However, no place, city, or country can not change from a bad state to a good one; Ghana is a typical African country that was once suffering, but later turn to be good.
Therefore the Lagos state government can still make things good for the betterment of the Lagosians if they can mimic the world advanced countries such as America, France, and Europe.
The worst thing in history is, Nigeria had Television before France, but it’s so pathetic that the country ran down drastically from its equilibrium to decline.
I have purposely made a comparison between Nigeria and especially Lagos as a state to many advanced cities like New York, Amsterdam, Rome, Florence, Johannesburg, Abu Dabhi, Venice, and many others all these cities are filled with unique features like, things of nature which are mostly used for the benefit of the citizens. For instance, there are adequate boats that are meant for water transportation, better and world-class boulevard, advanced railway systems, and price control on any commodities.
Here in Nigeria, there is nothing of such, but since Lagos is a separate entity with its autonomy, there are some things I will pinpoint that will develop the lifestyle of Lagosians if the government can be kind enough to make them put them in place.
4. Price control:
This is the problem facing Lagos since there is a lack of price control in the country, many citizens are always inflating commodities at will. For instance, at the bus stop, the price of buses is always different, if you get to the bus stop a bus loading may tell you the fare is #200 if he left another to load will tell you he is collecting #500 for the same destination. Thus the Lagos state government needs to intervene.
3.There Must Be Clear Difference Between Government And Public Transportation Fare:
In many countries, the citizens are eager to board government transport vehicles especially the railway, which is large enough to accommodate numerous passengers.
Many citizens love boarding it because of the affordable prices, but here in Lagos ordinary commercial buses will be carrying passengers for #300 from Abule-Egba to Oshodi, BRT will also collect the same price, then what is it that the citizens are enjoying from the government.
2. Monitoring Of The Government Parastatals:
In every advanced city, all the civil servant’s activities are monitored so that no staff will go astray, but in Nigeria, civil servants believed that they are autonomous to their duty, as a result, many will be seen demanding money before service, such as what is going on now in the country, the government demanded that every citizen should go out and obtain their national identity card, but the people in charge are demanding for money from the citizens before the identity card can be issued. This is currently rampant in Lagos state.
1. Effective Water Ways Transportation System:
The city with inadequate knowledge to manipulate its resources is Lagos state.
Lagos state is blessed with waters, and both vast waters that can be used for means of effective transportation of both people and goods are found there, i.e the Lagoon and the sea, but the leaders are not blessed with adequate cognizance of exploiting these waters.
Presently, the bridges that link the other part of Lagos to the mainland are under renovation, thus preventing effective movement of vehicles.
In this way the government ought to bring in numerous boats, that will be conveying people from one terminus to another, in that way the Lagosians will be relieved of the connections, even after the renovation of the bridge the people will have different choices weather to move by boats of vehicles.
All these are always available in most advanced cities, and I believe Lagosians are liable to have the amenity.
