This Is How Shina Rambo And Other Criminals Like Him Should Be TreatedNigeria, like many other countries in the world, had ways to pardon criminals they felt should be set free.
Such decisions should not just be turned into a tale of shoddiness.
The fact that Nigerians have been tormented in the hands of different nefarious groups, such as terrorists, bandits, armed robbers, kidnappers, among others, should not remain a menace that deserved a lackadaisical approach.
The more we treat such cases with ill-preparedness, the more rampant the crimes are turning to be, and the only people suffering most from the menaces are the masses.
Before we begin to experience the aforementioned criminals’ turpitude display, what we knew in the past are armed robbers. Still, it seemed the Nigerian government had handled the case with a surreptitious furtiveness, making their existence to metamorphose into the carnage that is now formidable.
For instance, in the past months, the Nigerian government claimed that some arrested Boko Haram had repented. Thus clemency was given to them all, but we were appalled to hear that one of them went home to kill his father.
In one of the northern states, a governor met with the bandits’ heads for negotiations. Still, disappointedly the bandits went again and again to attacks his state, despite the negotiations.
During the era of Goodluck Jonathan, he and his political coteries vied for a negotiation with the Boko Haram terrorists. Still, the insurgents rejected the dialogue, making them believe that they are too formidable for the Nigerian government to be dislodged.
The idea of freeing a criminal in a nation like Nigeria will only result in a continual risk of destruction of lives and properties.
Some hardened rogues are moving freely with impunity in Nigeria presently because a prerogative of mercy has been given to them; such a criminal is a certain “Shina Rambo,”; a rogue who had disrupted the Nigerians peace in the 90s.
He has been parading himself as a repentant rogue, thereby claiming to be a pastor in an undisclosed church.
Although some have declared themselves a repentant rogue and proved that they would never be involved in crime again, such a person is pastor Kayode Williams; he promised and fulfilled his promise.
However, many criminals who proclaimed their denouncement in crimes went back to it; an example of such criminals is ” Gana,” a Benue state terrorist, and “Don Waney,” a Rivers state kidnapper.
The aforementioned criminals denounced their involvement in crimes but went back to it.
Hence, before a criminal can be free in the city, he should publicly declare a former criminal. He should be placed under proper surveillance to be easy to track if he eventually compromises.
There have been a series of stories of Shina Rambo attacking houses after he decides to stop the criminal act; some people would say it’s another person that is bearing his name; how sure are this person?
In this way, all criminals who are pronounced free should be placed under proper surveillance for five or ten years to ascertain their conduct not to be living under the pretense of repentance and living a contrary life.
