The Punch Newspaper has released another cartoon about the appointment of new service chiefs by President Muhammad Buhari. The cartoon is about the senate confirmation for the new service chiefs.
The cartoon shows Mr. president telling the new service chiefs not to panic when they appear at the senate, they should start rehearsing how to bow.
After the president appointed the chiefs, he sent their names to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation based on constitutional requirements. The Senate is expected to invite the new appointees for questioning before the final confirmation.
Based on past experiences, the senate might like to confirm the new service chiefs without such scrutiny. During the ministerial nominees screening in 2019, the senate asked many of the appointees to bow and go after asking few questions from them.
Nigerians always described the current National Assembly as a rubber stamp because President buhari always gets a soft landing from them.
This is the reason why the cartoon silently described the Nigerian Senate as a rubber stamp.
Do you agree that the current National Assembly is a rubber stamp?
