The Mistake Yomi Fabiyi Made That Attracted The TAMPAN Leadership To Ban Him Indefinitely
Yomi Fabiyi is a talented Nigerian actor who has been making waves in the film industry for years, but he suddenly rose to prominence because of his actions and support of the child molestation allegations leveled against his colleague known as Baba Ijesha.
Subsequently, Baba Ijesha was granted bail by the high court on the agreement that he will reappear in court between the 26th, 27th, and 28th of July 2021.
Thus, there is nothing to rejoice about if one has not been vindicated by the court during any trial, but Yomi Fabiyi made the mistake of indirectly celebrating the victory of Baba Ijesha’s bail without minding that there is more to be anticipated about.
Recently, he produced a movie titled “Oko Iyabo.” The movie was an account of everything that happened between himself, Baba Ijesha, Princess (who masterminded the trial that was set before Baba Ijesha), and Iyabo Ojo.
Despite receiving encomiums from Nigerians on his support for Baba Ijesha, so he resolved to produce a movie about everything, but what followed the release of the movie was absolute criticism.
The Nigerians have criticized Yomi Fabiyi lately over the release of the movie for this reason: He has made it clear in the past that he promised to produce something similar to the account of his experience in the case of Baba Ijesha and that was what he has done in the movie.
Many Nigerians condemned the plot of the story because it is a direct narration of everything that happens to Baba Ijesha and again, the names of the characters are direct. For instance, the name of Baba Ijesha, which is “Lanre” and the name of Iyabo Ojo which is Iyabo.
Furthermore, some of the actors who intervened in the matter in real life also participated in the story.
The association of the Yoruba movie producers named TAMPAN has now intervened in the whole story.
To them, Yomi Fabiyi has acted contrary to the ethics of the association.
Thus, the group administrators reacted because they believed that the association of Nigerian filmmakers had one goal, which is the act of teaching Nigerians morals and good virtues instead of instigating them against their members or another person in society. In this way, what they did was to summon Yomi Fabiyi to the meeting where he would be questioned about his decision to produce such a movie.
Yomi Fabiyi should have allowed the matter to be after Baba Ijeshas’s bail. Although the Nigerians know that he took a major role in getting him released, he should have forgotten about the matter rather than thinking of making a movie to mock a fellow.
The mistake he made again is that he did not know what would be the outcome of the case because Baba Ijesha will still face the court on the aforementioned date in July.
Another point is that Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, i.e the judge that presided over the case, has made it clear that no one should talk about the case once he has taken over. The judge warned that not even Iyabo Ojo or Princess had any right to discuss it even before the pressmen, but Yomi Fabiyi went ahead producing a movie that will not even discuss the case but mock another actor.
Similarly, the TAMPAN has treated the case in their meeting in which Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing were blamed for escalating the matter on the internet, and both actresses were banned from the Nigerian movie terrain, but the two actresses beseeched the leaders of the association openly, which is a sign of submissiveness and that supposed to end every controversy, but Yomi Fabiyi went ahead to produce a movie that may result to another hostility.
Consequently, it would be better for Yomi Fabiyi to come out to the public and apologize to the Nigerians for all the mistakes. Although he has taken down the movie on Instagram and other social media, he still needs to come openly to express his regret.
