Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi sees first career red card against Athletic Bilbao last night in the Spanish Super Cup.
Lionel Messi was given his marching order by referee Jesus Gil Manzano after consulting the Video Assistant Referee over an infringement by the attacker.
The six-times Balon d’Or winner was given a red card in the 120th minutes of extra time with Barcelona trailing by a goal behind.
Barcelona was on course to win the title with a two-nil lead before Athletic Bilbao scored their second goal of the night in the 90th minutes to extend the game into extra time.

French attacker, Antoine Griezmann brace was not enough as Barcelona was defeated by Athletic Bilbao with Inaki Williams scoring the winner in the extra time.
The defeat means Barcelona, who was the clear favourite before the game begins are still in search of their first title win under Ronald Koeman.
Barcelona will be looking forward to returning to winning ways in their next game against Elche in La Liga.
