Nigerian footballers and their families came under kidnappers attack in the country with the first high profile kidnap in recent time was that Of Normu Yobo.

Normu Yobo is former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo elder brother and he was kidnaped in 2008.

Normu Yobo was kidnapped in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, his home state and it was rumoured that his abductors collected $10,000 ransom before freeing him.

Another victim of the brutal kidnap attack is Warri-born Christian Obodo who was kidnapped in Effurun, Delta State.

Super Eagle players

Obodo was kidnapped in 2012 at Effurun, close to Warri while visiting his in-law in the town.

The former Super Eagle player was freed by the Delta State Police command according to report.

Christian Obodo spent large part of his career abroad in Italy where he featured for five different teams.

Another Nigerian footballer family on the receiving end of kidnappers menace is John Mikel Obi family.

Mikel Obi

Mikel Obi father was kidnapped on two different occasions within a space of 8 years.

The Super Eagles captain father was abducted in 2011 and he spent 12 days with his abductors before regaining his freedom.

Mikel Obi father was kidnapped again in 2018 few hours before Nigeria’s world cup next round qualification decider against Argentina.

Mikel Obi led his team against the Argentines in Russia without telling any member of the team about his dad kidnap.

Mikel revealed that the kidnappers threatened to kill his father who was kidnapped alongside his driver on their way to Enugu for a burial.

The police in Enugu later rescued the footballer father from the kidnapper after engaging them in gun battle thereby forcing them to abandon him in the forest.

The former Chelsea midfielder is arguably Nigeria most achieved footballer winning the African Nations Cup, The EPL title, The FA Cup and the Champions League.

Another high profile Nigerian football related kidnap is that of Ogere Siasia, mother of Coach Samson Siasia.

Ogere Siasia was first kidnapped at her residence in Sagbama, Bayelsa in 2015 and she spent 13 days with the kidnappers before she was freed after an unknown ransom was paid.

The 76-year-old Ogere Siasia was kidnapped again four years later in 2019 alongside two others at her resident in Bayelsa.

The coach mother spent more than a month with the kidnappers as Siasia was pleading with the abductors to free her mother as he was also battling his indictment with FIFA.

Samson Siasia was part of part of Nigeria maiden team at the World Cup the USA ’94.

Siasia also led the Nigeria U-23 to the Olympic in 2008 and also the U-20 World Cup in 2005.
