- See The Weird Tradition Where Women Have Their Fingers Chopped After A Family Member Dies
Just when you think you have heard it all, unknown to you that you haven’t seen anything at all.
I have actually seen and heard severally of bizzare cultures, but, never have I heard of this kind of tradition where women have their fingers chopped off after losing a loved one, especially a family member.
And this is usually done to appease the ancestral ghosts.
And I wonder why this kind of tradition should gone down with the male folks residing in this place.
So a lady who just lost a loved one, who is down with grief and agony, is made to pass through physical induced pains just so that their ancestral ghosts could be appeased.
This is unbelievable, but, true.
This kind of weird tradition is practiced in Dani tribe a place in Indonesia.
How is this usually done?
When a lady loses a loved one, she has one of her fingers amputated.
This is usually done by tying a string at the tip some minutes before the amputation to induce a numbness around the tied area.
This is usually done to reduce the pain that would be caused as a result of the amputation.
After the finger/ fingers are amputated, ashes are smeared over the open wound to avoid having it infected.
The amputated part is then burned in a secluded place.
According to the Dani tribe, cutting fingers of women after the death of a loved one, helps the restless spirit of the loved one to be tamed.
So, it means that when women lose their love ones, in Dani tribe, they also lose a part of their body, which is obviously their fingers.
What a weird tradition!
Below, are some of the pictures of women whose fingers were amputated;
