Scrapping Of The Senate Will Create Anarchy; Ahmed Lawan
Ahmed Lawan President of the Senate has claimed that the scrapping of the country Senate would spell doom and anarchy for the country.
The senate president made the claim earlier today while speaking at the retreat organized for the top management staff of the National Assembly and National Assembly Service Commission in Abuja. The senate president Ahmed Lawan said the clamor and demand by some Nigerians that the house of the senate is scrapped, will spell anarchy. He said as against popular assumption, the annual budget of the National Assembly is less than 1% of the nation’s 2021 budget.
Rather than call for the scrapping of the Senate, senate president Ahmed Lawan urges Nigerians to vote for them out come 2023 general election. He said the Senate being the highest office of the legislative arm plays a crucial role in ensuring that representation gets to the grassroots.
Over the years Nigerians have accused both houses of the National Assembly (The Senate and House of Representatives) as a drain on the country budget. Nigerians have insisted that the Senate which is the highest office of representation in the legislative arm should be scrapped and the country should return to a unicameral system of government.
While faulting and disclaiming claims that the Nigerian senate collects jumbo pay, the Senate President Ahmad Lawan has urge Nigerians not to vote for them come 2023 if they have failed the people they were elected to represent because scrapping the senate would only create anarchy for the country.
