President Bio Of Sierra Leone Suspend Civil Servants Over Corruption Reports
President Bio of Sierra Leone suspends all civil servants who were named in the commissions of inquiry on corruption reports.
(The report also named over 100 officials from the previous Govt alongside former President Ernest Bai Koroma – as being involved in corruption).
In a statement released by the government of Sierra Leone, President Bio has taken hardlines aginst corruption in West African Country. The statement dated 5th September2020, and signed by the press secretary and presidential spokesman for the government of Sierra Leone reads:
“The General public is hereby informed that His Excellency the President has directed that all current civil / Public servants who have been named in the Reports of the Commission of Enquiry, 2020 and the accompanying White Papers for acting improperly with respect to the use of Public Funds, are relieved of their duties with immediate effect until the appeal process is concluded”
Sierra Leone is going through a transformation stage following President Bio’s decision to help resuscitate the economy of the country that has suffered from Civil war and corruption.
The question many Nigerians are asking is that can such a thing be done in Nigeria. We have seen how public funds have been misused and public office holders indicted but nothing has come out of it. The APC led the buhari administration which made the fight against corruption one of its key agenda has failed largely in that area.
President Bio has said Public officials must serve with integrity and they must be above reproach at all times. Unlike other Commissions, citizens are assured that this Government will fully implement all recommendations.
