Many people in Nigeria including the newly elected and incumbent Governor of Edo State believe deceitfully that godfatherism should be eradicated in the country. This belief of theirs has awakened many thoughts and questions which I need an answer to. This is why I am throwing the questions at Obaseki, PDP and their entourages. But before I ask or proceed, I want you to know how many times Asiwaju Tinubu, Adams Oshiomhole and other APC leaders has been blacklisted by PDP as the real political godfathers in the country.
Congratulations to Governor Obaseki for his new victory as the governor elected for the second time but has Obaseki ever asked himself with whose help did he win the election? Oh! Obaseki wants to tell me that he only went to church and pray to God for a re-election victory. He has been deceiving himself but he can’t deceive us. They all shouted against godfatherism but indirectly the likes of Dr Bukola Saraki, Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has been the backbone of his re-election as a governor. Think about it.
Obaseki was rightly voted out in the primaries of the All Progressives Congress early this year. However, reports said that his loyalty was questioned and he truly proves that he is not a good party man. This same Obaseki was compared to the case of the former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode. Ambode might have mistaken some daring steps as a governor but he was/is loyal to his party and to the people of Lagos. He lost in the primaries but he didn’t give up on the party. He peacefully paved way for the present Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu.
Obaseki is the direct opposite of Ambode and I believe he will surely do the same for the People’s Democratic Party when things go wrong between him and his new godfathers. Mark this word today.
Ask me how Obaseki actually won this election, he was practically given sympathy votes among the good people of Edo. Maybe Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu was not a tough contestant against him but I believe Obaseki has actually belonged to a new school of political godfatherism which I am about to prove to you.
On the 19th of June 2020, Obaseki joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after he resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in lieu to the loggerhead he had with the suspended APC chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo renamed a street formerly known as Adams Oshiomole Crescent after the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki. I think he wasted no time in warming himself to his new political party and their leaders. He also thought it’s a way to punish or show Oshiomhole that he truly is in charge of Edo State. Which I subtly see as a petty politics.
Of course, he is the governor but Obaseki has forgotten his roots. And any river that draws a blank at its source will surely perish. Obaseki’s downfall is not now but we shall see after completing his 8 years as the Governor of Edo. PDP will tell him we have tried enough for you, what can you offer us?
This political tussle between PDP and APC in Edo State is not actually against godfatherism but against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Obaseki’s victory on Sunday was to weaken his ambition for the 2023 presidential election and they are also on the verge of increasing the weakening tempo in the upcoming Ondo State Guber election.
Dr. Bukola Saraki who is now a top member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Nyesom Wike the Chairman of the just concluded Edo election for Obaseki are two backbones of his victory. They are his godfathers and they’ve proven it. They should stop deceiving the people about their untrue and deceitful nature.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has been playing his non too concern about what’s going on but I believe well Obaseki had his full support. The top PDP officials have proven to be a rival against Tinubu and this is their first win as a league of godfathers.
Saraki himself played the antagonist in the leadership of the 8th National Assembly which was at the detriment of the buhari led administration. The eradication of Godfatherism is their calling but yet they practised it and they believe we won’t say anything about it.
