Politics: Mahamat Idriss Debby Itno to Replace late father as head of Chad Military Council
Four-star general and son of late Chadian President Idriss Debby Itno, Mahamat Idriss Debby Itno is set to replace his late father as the head of the Chad Military Council.
The Chadian Army confirmed the appointment of General Mahamat Idriss Debby Itno as the new head of the Military Council today following the death of his later father and the previous occupant of the position today.
Idriss Debby Itno died as a result of injuries sustained while leading the Chadian troop against rebel forces in North Sahel as the country battle terrorism.
Debby, who recently won his re-election for the sixth time to govern Chad spent 30 years leading the country before his unfortunate death as a result of the injury.
Late Idriss Debby Itno postponed his victory speech to join the Army at the war front and he never returned alive. He took power from President Hisséne Habré in 1990 and he survived several rebellion attacks since then until his death.
The Chadian Parliament have now been dissolved following the death of Idriss Debby Itno at the age of 68.
