Politics: INEC is a criminal organization- Embattled Human Rights Activist
Embattled human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore, says the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is a criminal organization after meeting the electoral body top personnel this week.
Sowore revealed that he had meeting with staff of the agency in their headquarters twice under a week and what he could deduce from the meeting is that the electoral body is compromised.
“Twice this week I attended meetings with top officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission @inecnigeria at their headquarters, I could report confidently that @inecnigeria is not short of a criminal organization! Forget free & fair elections anywhere!” Read a statement from Sowore on his social media handle.
Speaking further, the former presidential aspirant says free and fair election in Nigeria is a ruse.
Sowore is the convener of the now global Revolution Now group that is protesting across the world.
After several attacks by security personnel against protesters loyal to the group in Nigeria, the Revolution Now protest has now gone global with its first virtual protest held last week.
The founder of the popular online tabloid Sahara Reporters was AAC Presidential candidate in the 2019 Presidential election.
Sowore was arrested and detained for months last year for staging a protest. The government charge him for treason although the charges was later dropped.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, under the leadership of Prof.Mahmoud Yakubu has come under attack on countless occasions for the irregularities and rigging during election under his watch in the country in recent times.
Nigeria has witnessed the highest number of inconclusive elections under his watch as the INEC in history.
Some sections of the electorates also believed the commission played a crucial role in President Muhammadu buhari’s re-election in 2019 despite the irregularities that marred the general election.
