Politics: Fresh crisis looming in PDP, Fani-Kayode blows hot, threatens to quit the party
A fresh crisis is looming in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the national working committee council of the party is scheming to take over the party structure in Cross River State from incumbent Governor Ben Ayade.
The move to take the party structure from the governor in Cross River state is set to tear the party apart.
Former Minister of Aviation and PDP chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode says the leadership of the party should shelve the planned move and let status quo remain or risk losing some party bigwigs including him in the party.
“It would be a big mistake for the NWC of the @OfficialPDPNig to take the party structures in his state away from Ben Ayaade,Gov. of Cross Rivers state,& hand them over to anyone else. If this is done &Ayaade leaves the party be rest assured that many of us will leave with him.
You cannot and must not undermine a sitting Governor or attempt to humiliate him in his own state and before his people. Some of those that are advocating & behind this nonsense would never allow it to happen in their own states. A word is enough for the wise.
No-one, no matter how big or powerful, should think that they own the
@OfficialPDPNig. If there is any attempt to undermine Ayade it will spark off a crisis in the party that will split it right down the middle and the consequences will not be limited to Cross Rivers state” says the outspoken Yoruba leader.
Party structures in states under the umbrella party are led by the State Governor. Ben Ayade is one of the six Peoples Democratic Party governs in South-South.
PDP is the biggest political party in the Oil-rich South-South zone with claim to all the states in the zone.
Ben Ayade, the Cross River State Governor is unpopular in state and among the party faithful too for his dictatorial tendency in leading the state.
