Police Deny Shooting Former Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore

The Nigerian Police Force has denied that its officers shot former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, on Monday.

 

Sowore claimed that he was shot by a female police officer during a protest against insecurity in Abuja on Monday morning. The human rights activist was rushed to a hospital in the city.

In a statement released by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command spokesperson, Mariam Yusuf, on Monday afternoon, the police said officers deployed to the protest scene professionally restored peace at the venue without harming anyone.

 

The Police also said the protesters went on a rampage at the Unity Fountain in Abuja on Monday and the police quickly deployed personnel in order to restore law and order in society.

 

The command enjoins residents to remain calm and law-abiding while reaffirming its commitment towards the protection of lives and property within the FCT.
