Opinion: Politics, You, Your Dreams and Goals By Tijani Tosin
The world we live in is a world that parade itself in so many uncertainties. But in the midst of these acute uncertainties, assurances of a better world “wine and dine” with us as we continue to remain hopeful even in the midst of a less conducive environment.
Every environment is bleak so don’t be deceived. But the bleakness is what varies so i am encouraging you to remain hopeful. But as you remain hopeful, i need to quickly introduce you to the determining factor that kills hope and make hope alive in every environment you find yourself.
I must also emphasise that your dreams, goals, vision, aspiration in your profession, business, career and even your household wellbeing to mention a few is connected to, shape and reshape by this all connecting and ubiquitous factor.
The same factor when left unattended to may truncate every other plan and desire you have for life. What differentiate the height of bleakness in every environment and society is this same all-knowing but largely ignored factor.
You’re young and vibrant, full of hopes for life. You are full of dreams and goals for a better tomorrow yet live in uncertainty because you have ignored and left a factor so critical to your overall wellbeing in the hands of those whose focus is to leverage on your ignorance on this all connecting factor for personal enrichment and aggrandisement.
You have been told by well meaning individuals that you need to start a business, acquire skills, get relevant knowledge and make yourself employable. In as much as i encourage you to do so, I will like you to also begin to pay more attention to that factor that dashes your hope and aspiration if you continue to ignore. I am sure you already know what factor I am talking about.
The highest determining factor of every other sector in any society is politics. This factor direct day-to-day governance and shapes policy which in turn affect and impact your daily living. You can’t afford to leave this business of politics and governance in the hands of those who already are out of ideas.
You can’t anymore afford to ignore politics and governance to the detriment of your professional, business and career goal. You no longer can afford to stay aloof and watch usurper continue to make you live in uncertainty while you keep assuring yourself of a better tomorrow.
You can no longer afford to keep silent as you watch the old profiteers of politics & governance mismanage our collective patrimony and leave our environment in a state of perpetual bleak. Our success and overall wellbeing is connected to the sanity of our environment.
Don’t get it twisted, our environment here simply means the decision that is taken politically to determine value distribution and allocation.
The reason behind your quest for a conducive environment is not to enjoy the blissfulness of the environment or take selfies to flood your social media page, you are simply looking for an environment where the handlers of politics and governance are humane in their decision making process, where tact and integrity are the underlining factors that forms the basis of governmental policies and action. A place where leadership is people and service oriented.
Consider this thought and ask yourself this questions; What role did i play in the last general election? How have i contributed to the state of my environment by staying aloof politically? How well did i contribute and participate in political and electioneering process?
Do i know my leaders? How long will i continue to empower political profiteer and those mismanaging our collective patrimony by being ignorant of political process and governance? What role can i play in the political environment of my country in order to change the narrative and turn around the tide of uncertainty and bleak environment? Will my business and professional goals thrive if i leave politics and political process only to those whose body language and action reflects nothing but cluelessness and confusion?
In closing, we must continuously endeavour to get involve in politics and governance because a critical factor as politics that affects our economic stability and overall welfare should not be the business or affairs of the few but an affair of all sundry and actively so.
