Ondo 2020: Heavy Blow of Akeredolu’s Deputy as Thousands of ZLP Members Join APC.
Former Deputy Chairman of Zenith Labour Party in Ondo State, Abayomi Adebayo, the Chairman of the party in Ese Odo Local Government Area, and 2500 members of the party decamped to the All Progressives Congress on Friday.
The new progressive members were received by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and APC chairman in Ondo State, Engineer Ade Adetimehin, during the party’s campaign tour in Ese Odo Local Government Area on Friday.
Speaking, the former deputy chairman of the ZLP, Engr. Adebayo said the defectors decided to partner with Governor Akeredolu after taking a cursory look at the economy of the state and the gap created by the immediate past administration.
He lamented that the dream of the deep seaport initiated by the late Olusegun Agagu administration would have come to reality but for the Mimiko administration that abandoned it for eight years.
Responding, Governor Akeredolu assured that his administration will pursue the establishment of the deep seaport and actualize the dreams for the economic prosperity of the state.
The defection is a heavy blow for the Deputy Governor of the State, Agboola Ajayi, who recently joined the ZLP and emerged as the Governorship candidate for the election coming up in October.
Agboola Ajayi first dumped the APC for the People’s Democratic Party, he later left PDP after losing the primary election to Eyitayo Jegede SAN.
Ajayi, Akeredolu, Jegede, and other candidates’ fate will be decided by the Ondo people on October 10, 2020.
