Okonjo Iweala dedicated the award to all Africans who have been affected by the health and Economic impact of Covid-19.

Okonjo Iweala being the first Woman in Africa to collect the award, Joins other prominent Nigerians like Akinwunmi Adesina, Aliko Dangote and Muhammad Sanusi II in being recognized as “African of the year”
Akinwunmi Adesina president of the African Development Bank has bagged the award twice. One in 2013 and the other in 2019 while Dangote won the award in 2014, Muhammad Sanusi former Central bank Governor in 2011.
