Obasanjo, IBB Missing Again as Jonathan, Gowon Celebrates Independence With buhari.
Nigeria’s 60th Independence Day anniversary was celebrated at Eagle Square in Abuja on Thursday.
The event was attended by top Government officials including former Heads of State.
Second military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, and former president Goodluck Jonathan were the only past Nigerian leaders present at the event.
Former Vice President Namadi Sambo and former Chief of General Staff, General Oladipo Diya, were also present.
Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Gbadamosi Babangida, former Head of State, Abdulsalam Abubakar, and Interim President, Ernest Shonekan, were absent at the event.
The former Nigerian leaders did not give any reason for their absence on an important occasion. The Presidency did not reveal if they were invited or not.
Recall that former President Obasanjo was also missing at the Council of State meeting that was held last month. It was a statutory meeting that involved all past leaders.
The Independence Day anniversary also coincided with the 10th year anniversary of the bomb explosion planted by militants under the aegis of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta.
Yesterday’s event went well, the security forces including Police Force, Nigerian Army, and Air Force paraded at the event.
President Muhammad buhari did not give any address at the event other than the one he gave at Aso Rock on Thursday morning.
