Nigerians Fume as FG Orders Another Bank Self Verification Despite BVN.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered another bank self-verification.
This was communicated to the public on Thursday evening through a press statement released by the government.
The statement read: “INFORMATION:
This is to notify the general public that all account holders in Financial Institutions (Banks, Insurance Companies, etc) are required to obtain, complete, and submit Self – Certification Forms to their respective Financial Institutions.”
The statement said if you have an account in more than one financial institution, you have to fill the form at all Institutions.
However, Nigerians have reacted to the new directives given by the Federal Government.
See some of the reactions below.
“This buhari’s govt keep making life hard for Nigerians. What’s the point of having BVN when we still have to go through this 20th-century approach? SMH”
“It’s really saddening that this govt has chosen to punish Nigerians, what exactly did we do to deserve this kind of inhuman leadership? This is wickedness in its height, from a government that has failed to provide basic amenities to citizens but continuously tax us heavily.”
“I believe every bank account is linked to BVN and national ID number, what else are you possibly looking for? If you think those can be forged, what else do you think can’t be forged?”
“Dear Nigerians, let’s gather and cry under this tweet. For God’s sake, They can make the form available online. We’ll just fill and submit but are acting as if we are in the 20th century.”
“Dear @NigeriaGov, what is this about please and why is it being put in place? Your communication does not provide sufficient information and, as currently communicated, seems like another never-ending verification exercise that will frustrate the public for little or no gain.”
“The Nigerian people don’t stress the Nigerian govt half as much as the Nigerian govt stresses the Nigerian people. Ours is a very weird dynamic.”
If you have accounts with four different banks, you must visit each one to fill self-certification forms. Failure to do so could attract sanctions including loss of control of the account(s), or monetary penalties.
