The military has announced the burial arrangements for the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, and six other officers who died in a plane crash in Kaduna on Friday.
According to the Nigerian Army, the late heroes will be buried on Saturday, 22nd of May 2021, at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
In a statement released by the Army Public Relations Officer, Brigade General Mohammed Yerima, the service will commence at the National Mosque and National Christian Centre in Abuja by 10:00am respectively.
The Army Chief and six other top military officers will be laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery by 1pm.
General Attahiru was apparently on his way to Kaduna ahead of today’s passing out parade of soldiers from the Nigerian Army depot, Zaria before the plane mishap.
There are no details on the cause of the crash yet. This is a devastating loss for Nigeria. Lt Gen. Attahiru restored public confidence in the army.
Lt General Attahiru was appointed by President Muhammad buhari a few months ago. Having previously saved with distinction in the war against Boko Haram, his elevation was greeted with celebrations in the northeast.
President buhari has mourned the late Army Chief and other officers who died in the plane mishap. The president also received a briefing from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Leo Irabor, after the incident.
The military authorities cited bad weather as the reason for the plane crash.
