Nigeria High Comm staff ordered for our arrest over a peaceful protest at the Commission -NANS UK Leader

Coordinator of the National Association of Nigeria Students, NANS, UK chapter, Shòyemí Pèpèr-Hadé Shòyemí alleged that staff of the Nigeria High Commission in the United Kingdom called for the arrest of the students who are on scholarship in the UK for organizing a peaceful protest in front of the commission.

Shòyemí says the students who are on the corruption-ridden Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, scholarship have been abandoned in the foreign country with Nigeria Government not paying their tuition and maintenance fees as far back as 2018.

“Nigerian Government failed to pay the tuition of 200 students on government scholarship in 2019 and another 140 in 2018.

The students now depend on loans to fend for themselves in United Kingdom due to the government failure to meet up with their obligations to the students while other beneficiaries of the scholarship are still stranded in Nigeria” according to Olukayode Olugbemi, Esq (The Leader of the NDDC Scholars).

The students are calling on President Muhammadu buhari led Federal Government to prevail on the NDDC to pay up the tuition and maintenance fees of the stranded students who are currently on scholarship in the Queen’s country.

Meanwhile, The NDDC is enmeshed is a N81B corruption in recent times despite its failure to pay for the students tuition and welfare in another country.

The National Assembly and the Presidency are currently investigating the allegation of corruption and contract racketeering in the commission.
