Nigeria gets new Chief of Army Staff (COAS)
Following the death of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru in a 2021 NAF Beechcraft B300 King Air 350i plane crash near Kaduna International Airport. President Muhammadu buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
The announcement was made via a statement this Thursday afternoon by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, acting director of Defense information.
The statement read; “The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Mohammadu buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.”
“Before his appointment, Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI.”
The death of late Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 others came as a blow to the country.
