Nigeria Customs Intercept Weapons Coming From Niger Republic
Men of the Nigeria customs border task force have intercepted a large cache of bullets and guns been smuggled into Nigeria from the Niger Republic.
The Nigeria customs announced this in a press statement released yesterday Sunday 13th, November 2020. According to the press statement by the Nigeria Customs Public Relation Office DC Joseph Attah,
” Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operation Unit Zone B, on information patrol along Yauri, Zamari Waterside Kebbi State intercepted a truck loaded with lically produced rice, with some sacks concealed under the rice. Upon careful examination, the bags were found to contain 73 local made guns and 891 cartridges.”
“There person was immediately arrested and are being detained while a preliminary investigation is going on. Controller of FOU Zone B Hamisu Albashir describes the feat as a signal to all those who may be planning to bring any harmful item into the country through zone B”.
“He calls on all members of the public especially border community dwellers, to provide credible information for effective border security”
The porous nature of the Nigeria border has contributed immensely to the security challenges faced by the country. The Nigeria customs service must take proactive steps to help stop the proliferation of weapons into the country.
