Ahead of plans by FG to Reopen Airports across the country. The Minister of Aviation has unveiled new rules and regulations to guide the activities of passengers and airline operators.

Following the nationwide lockdown as a result of the coronavirus pandemic airport operation was among the worst hit as airport operations were grounded to a halt.

However, plans are underway by the FG to reopen airport operations across the country. So ahead of the proposed airport reopening the country’s Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika has revealed the new rules and regulations that would affect passengers.

He said this during an interview that passengers for local flights would need to be at the airport 3 hours before take-off, while passengers for international flights would be required to be at the airport 5 hours before departure.

The Minister said this at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja during the minister inspection to ascertain the preparedness of the country airports to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

The Minister who was also at the Muritala Mohammed Airport in Lagos on Saturday, June 27, further stated that necessary measures and equipment are being put in place to help passengers adapt efficiently to the new normal in the bid to avoid that time is not wasted.

According to the Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika he said;

“We will announce all the protocols again before opening. But you need to be at the airport three hours ahead of your flight.
“The experience is quite nice but it takes a bit of time which is why you will need to be at the airport three hours before your local flight. For an international flight, we may do five hours.”

On profitability of the aviation business upon the resumption, the Minister said;

“Those new norms are coming and we will implement them in such a way that flights are profitable. The World Health Organisation and the International Civil Aviation Organisation have developed protocols of the sitting.”

The Minister has reiterated the fact that operators of airlines and passengers must abide by the new rules to quicken plans by FG to reopen airports across the country.
