Music is a major aspect of the creative industry and a lot of upcoming artist are discovered and revealed every day.
In Nigeria, there are many talented artists and musicians that grace the different genres of music both the foreign and local genres. Just as every aspect of the creative industry artist and musicians must continue to hone their musical skills and talents to help them become better.
But the problem is that many upcoming artists don’t know what they should do, to help bring their music to a wider audience or the right channel. Many upcoming artists think music is just a means to escape from poverty, so instead of building their music skills, they are first after the fame and money. This wrong assumption has affected many promising upcoming artists and as such killed their music careers before it even started.
As an upcoming artist, the first lesson you should note is that it is not all very rosy and smooth sailing the top. Because most upcoming artists see music as an escape route from poverty and not an expression of creative art, they pursue an expensive lifestyle, which ends up killing their dreams.
Another major mistake most upcoming artists make is failing to create enough awareness about their songs. All upcoming artists should make their social media a mini-portfolio about their songs. Sometimes you will visit a social media page of an upcoming artist and you will not find anything related to his/her music rather they are using their social media pages to display fake and expensive lifestyles. This is very wrong.
Recently an upcoming artist Raeham made a post on his Instagram page calling on don jazzy to listen to his song. You would not believe the response that Don jazzy gave after visiting Raeham page.
See Don Jazzy reply below
@Raeham you didn’t have to do much. I’m replying to your message 35 seconds after you posted it. I have visited your page and all I saw there is one lonely post. Nothing there to show your hustle. Absolutely nothing to listen to. You need to fix that. Cos you never know who is watching. Forming swags with your page aesthetic is not going to get your music heard bro.
This upcoming artist was trying to create awareness by dragging Don jazzy to his post and it is not a bad idea to do that. What he failed to realize was that he should have been prepared, with enough of songs on his Instagram page, and as Don jazzy have said you never know ho is watching or listening.
