Dino Melaye, popular ex-senator who represented Kogi West, had a victorious day in court today. Recall, he had earlier sued the House of Representatives over the infectious disease bill 2020 which sparked major controversies and outrage all over the country.

In new reports from the hearing today, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the court has ordered the House of Representatives to maintain status quo on the infectious disease bill which has passed second reading.
Also, Justice Ifeoma Ojukwu called for 4 people to appear before the court. The people are AGF, Abubakar Mala, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the clerk of the National Assembly. They are to appear before the court on 20th May, 2020 to answer questions regarding the NCDC bill and give reasons why Dino Melaye’s request should not be granted.

Failure of any of the four respondents to show face on the said date will mean that the request of Dino Melaye to stop the bill shall be granted.

Since news broke that the infectious diseases bill has passed second reading, lots of conspiracy theories had been speculated, sparking a wide range of controversies.

The bill is even reported to have been sponsored by Gbajabiamila. Reports have it that the bill seeks to, among other things, make possession of health card mandatory for international travellers leaving or arriving in Nigeria — just like yellow fever card.

Adapted from a similar law in Singapore, many Nigerians have labelled it a rule unfit for a democratic country as our dear Nigeria.
