The Indian mountaineer and the Padma Shri Awardee Major HPS Ahluwalia has died at the age of 85. It is coming forward that the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre founder breathed his last on Friday, January 14, 2022. A statement was released announcing his death. It was stated that Ahluwalia was a trained mountaineer, a retired army officer, a social worker, and an author who gave his contribution in several fields that include disability and social work, sports, adventure, and environment. After the saddening piece of news was shared, netizens took to social media to pay him a since tribute.

HPS Ahluwalia is survived by Bholi Ahluwalia, his wife, and his daughter named Sugandh Ahluwalia. Ever since his demise, social media is witnessing a flood of tributes and RIP messages. However, netizens are also searching for his cause of death and thinking about what has happened to him that resulted in his sudden demise. Well, it has not been revealed yet as Ahluwalia’s family has not released any statement regarding the same. As of now, his death cause is unknown. It is assumed that the 85-year-old would have died because of health complications. Although, it is not confirmed yet.

HPS Ahluwalia Biography

Born on November 6, 1934, in Punjab, HPS Ahluwalia’s full name was Hari Pal Ahluwalia. HPS was among one of the six men in India who climbed Mount Everest while the world’s twenty-first man to do so. Along with Phu Dorjee Sherpa and HCS Rawat, he made the fourth and final attempt of the 1965 Indian Everest Expedition. This also became the first time when a total of three climbers stood together on the summit. After his advanced training which he took at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the author climbed extensively in Nepal. Hari Pal was brought up with his two younger brothers and sisters in Shimla.

In the Indian Central Public Works Department, Hari Pal’s father was a Civil Engineer. After completing his graduation, Hari Pal joined the Indian Army. Having been joined the Indian Army as an officer, he got a promotion and became lieutenant. During the 1965 war, Ahluwalia got severely injured as he was hit by a bullet in his spine which resulted in him getting on the wheelchair. Due to the same reason, he was discharged from the Army on Jan 8, 1968. However, Ahluwalia did not stop as he went on to find Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC). HPS Ahluwalia’s life experiences are mentioned in school books too.
