Lyon defeat: Yaya Toure resume war-of-words with Pep Guardiola
Following Manchester City defeat to Lyon in the quarter-final of this season UEFA Champions League, Yaya Toure has resumed his war-of-words with City Manager Pepe Guardiola.
“The manager has been signed for that to bring this trophy, it is quite disappointing” says Yaya Toure after the Citizens defeat against Lyon.
Lyon defeated Manchester City by three goals to one to dumped the Manchester side out of the Champions League in the quarter-final.
The former African footballer of the year winner’s comment is set to ignite another round of war-of-words between Yaya Toure and Guardiola.
Yaya Toure joined Manchester City in 2010 after falling out with Pep Guardiola when he was the manager at Barcelona just two years after his appointment.
The retired midfielder won the English Premier League title three times with Manchester City while also lifting the FA Cup once.
Toure is one of the most decorated African footballers alive with 18 trophies to his name and he also won the African footballer of the year four times.
He left Manchester City in 2018 after playing 230 games for them and finding the back of the net 59 times to cement his place as one of the diminutive scoring midfielders in EPL history.
Guardiola also joined Manchester City six years after Yaya Toure joined the EPL side in 2016.
Since Guardiola joined Manchester City, the Citizens have not gone past the quarter-final stage despite spending heavily on the squad in the last couple of years.
City was the favorite to win Lyon going into the quarter-final and one of the favorites to win this year’s Champions League.
Lyon attacker, Dembele, two second-half goals stunned the citizens as Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus failed to convert scoring chances.
