La Liga: Barcelona failed on the road again, Real Madrid now in pole position to win LaLiga
Barcelona was held to a painful draw this weekend by Celta Vigo in their La Liga Santander match away from home.
Following the draw at the Galician coast, Barcelona is just one point above Real Madrid on the league summit with the Spanish Capital giant set to play the struggling Espanyol today.
If Real Madrid wins against Espanyol, they will go two-point clear of Barcelona on the league table.
Barcelona’s Luiz Suarez scored twice against the resurgent Celta Bigo with Lionel Messi assisting both goals.
Suarez returns to scoring way to break the deadlock in the 20th minutes after a couple of matches with no goal.
The Uruguayan also net in the second half to put Barcelona ahead after Smolov leveled for Celta Vigo.
The Catalans were already looking at winning the three-points before Iago Aspas equalizer for the host in the 88th minute.
Quique Setien’s side were lucky to draw the match as Nolito nearly sealed a winner for Celta if not for Ter Stegien brilliant save.
Lionel Messi was unable to register a goal in the match as the Argentine talisman is still in search of his 700 career goals.
Lionel Messi has drawn blank in his last three LaLiga matches since the league restart.
