Today’s modern world is shaped by technology. Everything we see and use around us is somewhat a product of scientific research and application. The concept of a nation without modernization seems absurd. Technology is the virtual atmosphere that mankind has wrapped itself in.
But where technology brought forth the impossible wonders of space and air travel to real life, it also brought many issues to the table. These problems were not only technology-related, but also connected to the importance of its awareness. There were more survival problems for man to deal with in the primitive times. With the emergence of industries and revolutionary technology, it also raised issues related to society.
One such problem that began deteriorating the society due to advancements in the scientific field is gender equality. This is a major issue that has been holding mankind from rapid success in science and other aspects. Gender inequality has been a matter of debate in the first-world for over a decade now. The arguments presented by the two parties seem very different and somewhat, logical in many senses.
Gender inequality refers to the issue of not providing equal rights to women as men. Although there can not be the same laws for the two genders, however, the just rights of women are still a questionable matter. Many countries are working to eliminate the toxic thought of keeping women confined to a home, while many countries still try to make women follow the rules being made for them, even if they do not provide them the basic rights of life.
There are many reasons for people to believe that women do not have the need for more rights than they already have. According to such people, women do not need to do more than they are asked to do by their family. This can include a husband, parents, depending on the phase of life they’re currently in.
They feel that the head of the family should decide how the women of their household should live and act. They should know their limit and respect the decisions of the family head. Men in the family have the responsibility of working and earning bread for the family, while women are entrusted with the job of looking after their children and the rest of the family.
These traditions are fairly followed in Eastern households. While the stereotypes are being broken by the more enlightened members of the community, the ritual is still in effect in lesser developed areas. Southern Asia, especially India and Pakistan, are major hosts for this principle, and one can find many families that live under this guideline.
The people of Pakistan, in particular, consider this as an essential part of their religion. There are many people who still believe that there is no need for a woman to work or do as they please if her husband can provide for her. There is much evidence that can prove that women should be provided with more rights than they’re currently being given. While people that believe in reasoning approve of such ideologies, many people resent these arguments because of their belief in the traditions of older times.
In the West, however, there is a very different perspective of the issue. Families are more comfortable and happier believing in the concept of gender equality. Women are provided with opportunities to study and build a career for themselves. They even support their women if they want to work and live a dedicated life. Their concepts of social and civil rights have improved vastly over the past centuries.
There are substantial and valid reasons to support gender equality. Women were created as man’s companions. They have played a major role in bringing advancements to the modern world. One can find numerous examples of women excelling in their fields of expertise to bring modernization to society. Many women have led a life of example and done incredible services for mankind to accomplish modernization and peace.
Men and women have faced similar challenges in their quests for success and world harmony. While many acknowledge the fact and provide women with spectacular chances to bring revolution in the world, there are a few instances where they are held back from utilizing their full potential. Through adequate education and proper counselling, these issues can be overcome and women can make a difference in today’s world.
