Is Ben Davies the Man to Solve Liverpool Centre-Back Problem?
Liverpool football club is currently facing the biggest challenge of the 2020/2021 premier league season. The last season English premier league winners have more to contend with this season than covid-19. The Merseyside giant has suffered numerous injuries blows especially to its backline and this has left a dash in their hope of defending the league they won last season.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had been forced to play various players out of their positions just to cover the center-back problem the club is currently facing since most of its senior team center-back players are all suffering from various injuries. With the January transfer window closing this week and the club unwilling to spend in the transfer market, there is limited time to replenish the backline.
However, there is an ongoing report that Liverpool may have reportedly agreed on a deal to sign Preston North End defender Ben Davies, with the center-half set to join the Reds for £2million. This is according to reliable source Neil Jones of GOAL, who also claims the Premier League champions have an interest in Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car.
Some Liverpool fans and football enthusiasts have asked the question is Ben Davies the Man to Solve Liverpool Centre-Back Problem? Many may not know how good the Croatia international is; starring for Andre Villas-Boas’ side this season, but not many will be as familiar with Davies.
The 25-year-old Ben Davies is 6’1″ and capable of playing at left-back when called upon – which is a very desirable trait, especially given how much Jurgen Klopp likes versatile players. He is from Lancashire and started his professional career with a series of loans between 2013 and 2017, representing Merseyside clubs Southport and Tranmere Rovers along the way. The left-footed defender isn’t renowned for this aerial ability but is more than capable of playing the ball out from the back, which could compliment Nat Phillips’ game very well.
