Invictus Obi may get between 20 to 30yerars prison term as he get sentence in US Court today
Nigeria businessman and internet fraudster Obinwanne Okeke also known as Invictus Obi might get between 20 to 30 years as US court deliver sentence today. Invictus Obi was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for his alleged involvement in the defrauding of American companies and individuals over a period of at least four years between 2015 -2019.
The 33-year-old Nigerian entrepreneur and Chairman of Abuja-based Invictus Group who before his arrest in 2019, was listed in Forbes as influential young entrepreneurs. Obi was intercepted arrested by Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) who had obtained an arrest warrant and intercepted the fraudster in the airport while returning to Nigeria after a brief visit to the U.S. in 2019.
After months of denying his involvement in the crime before a federal judge in the U.S. and argument over jurisdiction Invictus Obi on June 18, 2020, pleaded guilty to two count charges of internet fraud in the United States that caused $11M in losses to his victims. One of his victims, Unatrac, a subsidiary of American heavy equipment manufacturer Caterpillar, lost $11 million in spurious wire transfers, court documents showed.
Obi who has agreed to cooperate with American authorities would be handed a sentence today and according to reports, Invictus Obi might get between 20 to 30 years jail term. Various sympathizers including his pastor in various letters have appeal to the judge handling the case to temper justice with mercy
Another Nigerian standing trial in the United State of America for internet-related fraud is Ramon Abass also known as Hushpuppi. He was arrested last year June in his hotel room in Dubai U.A.E in a joint operation between the Interpol, FBI, and UEA security agency.
