The date for the 2023 general elections has been set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Prof Mahmood Yakubu, INEC Chairman, made the announcement on Wednesday April 28 during a one-day public hearing organized by the Senate Committee on INEC on the National Electoral Offences Commission (Establishment) Bill 2021.
The 2023 general elections, according to Yakubu, will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
“According to the Commission’s principle, the 2023 General Elections will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, which is precisely one year, nine months, two weeks, and six days from today, or 660 days.
We expect to release the general election timetable and schedule of activities shortly after the governorship election in Anambra, which is set to take place on November 6, 2021.
In order to do so, the electoral legal system that governs the election must be clear and certain. We are assured that the National Assembly will take the necessary steps in a serious manner.” he said
