Ibrahim Uwais, the son of former chief justice Muhammed Uwais top the list of children of prominent Nigerians who openly joined terrorist organizations.

It is said that children are meant to be bearers of joy and everlasting bliss to their parents but this was not the case of some parents whose children decided to go the extremist way.

With the rise of radical Islamists, some children of prominent Nigerians have openly joined terrorist organizations, therefore bringing shame to their families and the country.

The First on the list is Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is the son of Alhaji Umaru AbdulMutallab, a wealthy Nigerian banker and businessman.

Alhaji Umaru Abdulmutallab a former chairman of First Bank of Nigeria and former Nigerian Federal Commissioner for Economic Development got his name dragged on the mud when the youngest of his 16 children born to his Yemeni wife Aisha, was arrested an onboard Northwest Airlines Flight 253, en route from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan, on Christmas Day, 2009, When he attempted to detonate a bomb.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab confessed to and was convicted of attempting to detonate plastic explosives hidden in his underwear. Umar Farouk joined Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in 2009 and was trained in Yemen.

Second on the list is Ibrahim Uwais, the son of formal chief justice Muhammed Uwais became a harbinger of pain and misery to his parent, thus killing their joy and bringing disrepute to their personality when he turned radical and joined the terrorist Islamic sect Islamic State (ISIS).

Ibrahim, the late son of former Chief Justice Mohammed Uwais unfurled like a blemish on his father’s reputation when he joined ISIS. However, he suffered an excruciating death on his deadly campaign with ISIS mates leaving his father and family heartbroken.

There is no argument that sadness invaded the household of the retired legal luminary when the news of his son’s enlistment with ISIS broke out at his death, Justice Uwais and the entire families were left devastated.

Late Ibrahim left Nigeria in 2015, telling close family members he was relocating to Turkey to explore business opportunities. He took along his two wives and five children. He slipped from Turkey into Syria with his entire family and joined the then flourishing army of volunteer fighters who travel from different parts of the world to enlist with ISIS, a group whose agenda was to carve out an Islamist Caliphate.

The news of his death and his association with the Islamic terrorist group ISIS tented the image of his father.
