How Bloggers Fake The News Of Sunday Igboho Submissiveness To Oluwo
Sunday Igboho and Oluwo of Iwo
Fake news has always been a cankerworm bedeviling the economic terrain of Nigeria. It has done more harm than good in society. It has demeaned the identity of many truisms about several escalated information and promoted disunity amidst several societies and organizations.
During the wake of COVID-19 in Nigeria, there was certain news spreading that a certain cab driver who conveyed the first coronavirus carrier from Lagos state to Ewekoro in Ogun had been infected with the deadly virus, and the cab driver professed to spread the virus except for the Nigerian government to pay him 120,000 nairas.
What followed afterward was that the fake news carrier suddenly provided a fake picture of a Nigerian young man as the driver. Upon seeing himself on the internet, this young man ran to Independent TV in Benin-city to debunk the news that he has no connection with the carrier and he has never been to Lagos in two years talkless of walking as a cab driver.
Just recently, another fake news rented the air of Nigeria society, when a certain University of Lagos undergraduate student named Chidinma Ojukwu killed a businessman who was the CEO of Super TV. Within a short period, some fake bloggers formulated fallacious baseless news that it was the wife of the deceased who arranged the killing of her husband through his side chic. Isn’t that ridiculous?
It is on this basis that another set of fake newsmongers has come out to enact the rumor that Sunday Igboho pleaded with Oluwo to beseech General buhari, the Nigerian dictator, to release his colleagues who were arrested in his custody in Abuja.
What later happens is that a picture filled the internet and it comprises of how Sunday Igboho has subverted to the vilification of Oluwo, who has always condemned the activism of Sunday Igboho.
However, Koiki Olayomi, the spokesman of Sunday Igboho, has debunked the news to be absolute distorted news that has no link with Sunday Igboho and any other Yoruba activists.
Hence, it is on this basis that 50 minds journalist, Afolabi Peters Murphy, has resolved to warn Nigerians to be wary of fake news in society, as it prevents the right information that the public needs.
In conclusion, before one can be a news carrier, one needs to consider the gravity that is attached to it, the relevance of the news, and the more likely source is very important. Bearing in mind that many fake news carriers only do it to generate income for their killer organization without minding the consequences and such kinds of blogs, media houses or organizations must know that whatever they sow in the process of spreading fake news they shall reap.
