Gtbank new dollar policy has angered many Nigerians, who claim they were not aware of the commercial bank dollar inflow policy.
According to a Twitter user, @Andiva who got angry by the gtbank new dollar policy, she posted on her handle saying
“Please if you receive forex from abroad with your @gtbank account, now is a good time to change banks because GTBank no longer allows its customers to withdraw their own money!
GTBank created a new policy (without informing customers) -inflows from abroad can no longer be withdrawn”
The micro-blogging site user said, that Gtbank did not inform it’s customers about the new policy which prevents customers who received dollar transfers from outside the country to withdraw the money in dollars.
She also said the gtbank new dollar policy was introduced in July of this year and many of the bank staffs are not even aware of the policy.
Other Nigerians had also jumped on the tweet to melt out their frustration over the banks lack of concern towards it’s customers.
Earlier this year The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has stated that only cash deposit into domiciliary account can be withdrawn over the counter and not through electronic transfer.
But this is definitely different from Gtbank new dollar policy as the CBN policy did not state inflow of dollar from outside the country
The apex bank disclosed in a tweet, stating that deposits made through electronic transfers into domiciliary accounts within the country can only be transferred but cannot be withdrawn as cash over the counter.
The CBN added that cash deposits also made into domiciliary accounts can only be withdrawn as cash over the counter and not transferred out of the domiciliary account.
While Nigerians are angered by GTbank new dollar policy, the bank has yet to make clarification on why the new policy was introduced, and why customers were not informed beforehand.
