Football: Chelsea attacker tests positive for COVID-19 as cases rise in Europe
Chelsea attacker and last summer signing, Kai Havertz tests positive for COVID-19 and is now self-isolating while undergoing medical treatment according to Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.
Lampard confirmed this as the German attacker misses Chelsea UEFA Champions League fixture against Rennes at Stamford Bridge.
“Frank Lampard has confirmed Kai Havertz has tested positive for Covid-19. As a consequence the player is now undergoing a period of self-isolation and is not involved in tonight’s Champions League game versus Rennes” reads a statement from Chelsea.
Kai joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £62M initial fee and its likely to rise to £71M. The 21-year old midfielder is one of the key players for Chelsea so far this season as they bid to win the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League titles.
COVID-19 cases have increased in Europe in recent weeks with more cases springing up. Five times world footballer of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are part of a few high profile players who best the virus recently.
