Flashback: See What OBJ Did To OPC When They Started Misbehaving Like Herdsmen Are Doing Now.

If you are in Nigeria during the tenure of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who will be familiar with the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC). The group is a Yoruba resistance group established after the popular June 12, 1993 election to defend Yoruba land.

The group had two factions, the Gani Adams led the group and the Fredrick Fashion group. The Gani Adams-led group later turned violent and started committing all kinds of atrocities in the country, especially in the South West.

The two groups always fighting each other and creating havoc in society. The groups also created an ethnic crisis in the country at that time.

The president at that time, Olusegun Obasanjo, is a Yoruba man, he called the leaders of the group to order, but they refused to listen to him thinking that they will enjoy favor from him because he is also a Yoruba man.

President Obasanjo invited the leaders of the group to Abuja for a meeting and handed them over to the police himself. He also proscribed the organization as illegal in Nigeria. Gani Adams and others spent years in detention even though they are from the same tribe as the president. Obasanjo was never biased about the issue, he placed National Interest above the Yoruba interest.

President Muhammad buhari should learn from Olusegun Obasanjo, he should attend to the herdsmen and farmers issue without bias. No group should take the whole country for ransom. National interest should be placed above ethnic interest.

Many Nigerians have accused the president of being biased and supporting the herdsmen in the ongoing crisis.

Every Nigerians have the right to live anywhere in the country, no one has the right to evict another group from any state of the Federation. However, the government must understand that herdsmen are becoming a threat to their host communities.

The ongoing crisis in Oyo State should be resolved peacefully, Sunday Igboho must not be arrested by the police, the government should make peace with both sides and arrest killer herdsmen terrorizing the people.

What’s your take on this issue? Do you think President buhari is bias? Can he be like Obasanjo?
