Flash: Agboola Ajayi quit PDP for ZLP after failing to clinch Guber ticket
Agboola Ajayi, the Ondo State Deputy Governor announces his departure from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to join the Zenith Labour Party just under two months after joining the party. Agboola Ajayi decides to quit PDP after failing to clinch the party governorship ticket ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State.
The former House of Representatives member fell out with his erstwhile boss, Rotimi Akeredolu and that forced him out of the party in July and just over a month after his departure from APC, Agboola has left PDP again for the ZLP.
“Today 10th August 2020, I Resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party to join Zenith Labour party to further my Aspirations.
I appreciate the National Leadership and members of the party for their warm reception and acceptance in the short period i rejoined the party” says Ajayi on his social media handles.
The Ese-Odo born politician is nursing the ambition of dislodging Rotimi Akeredolu to become the next governor of Ondo State this year.
Agboola ran the joint-ticket with Akeredolu in 2016 alongside Akeredolu as APC won Ondo State governorship election four years ago.
The former NASS member will contest again Rotimi Akeredolu of APC and Eyitayo Jegede of PDP if he is able to secure the ZLP guber ticket.
He left PDP in pursuance of his gubernatorial ambition. The forthcoming election is between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Both candidates of the APC and the PDP are Senior Advocates of Nigeria, the top law position in the legal profession.
Despite his stance on contesting the election, Agboola Ajayi is seen as an underdog going to the election later this year.
