FG Starts Construction Of Nigeria-Niger Republic, Kano-Dutse Railway Projects.
The construction of a railway line between Kano and Maradi, the frontier between Nigeria and the Republic of Niger, has been initiated by the Federal Government of Nigeria. This was disclosed on his Twitter account on Monday afternoon by the Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
With a multinational engineering construction company that will develop the project, the minister has signed a document for the launch of the project. The Kano-Dutse Railway line will also be built by the company. While working on the programs, the company also decided to establish a university as a CSR.
“Today, we signed the contract documents for the commencement of the Kano-Maradi, Kano-Dutse railway project. The contractor, Mota-Engil Group, a Multinational Engineering & Construction firm has also agreed to build a University as part of their CSR while working on the project.” The Minister said on his Twitter handle.
A few months ago, there were controversies in the country after the Federal Government approved the construction of the Kano-Maradi Railway line. Many Nigerians condemned the project, they argued that there are no economic benefits in constructing a railway from Nigeria to the Niger Republic.
The Federal Government believed the project will boost the trade relationship between Nigeria and the Republic of Niger.
