Extortion : 3 Cops dismissed in Ogun
Three police officers have been dismissed in Ogun State for extorting a Lagos State University(LASU) undergraduate of N153,000.
The three dismissed cops are Inspector Sunday John, Sergeant Jimoh Asimiya, and Sergeant Solomon Adedapo. They were dismissed from the force after they were found guilty of extortion.
Sunday John and his two dismissed colleague extorted one Oluwapelumi, an undergraduate on his way to Abeokuta, Ogun State capital from Lagos State. He was stopped and on searching his phone, they found nothing incriminating but still took him to the nearest Point of Withdrawal (POS) to extort him of the said amount.
Following the extortion, Oluwapelumi took to his social media to cry out over his money that was taken by the three policemen which led to the investigation of the officers and their dismissal from the force.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun ordered for the immediate arrest of the cops and he survived their interrogation by himself while reaffirming the force intolerance to extortion and any form of illegality from the police officers.
The former Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu has banned Police Officers from checking civilians phones without clearance before he left office.
The three dismissed cops in Ogun State will serve as a deterrent to other policemen who are still in the habit of extorting the general public.
