EPL: Brighton dent Arsenal Champions League qualification chances with their latest defeat

Arsenal suffered another defeat away from home against Brighton and Hove within four days to dent their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Arsenal loses to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday in their first match since the league restart.

Today’s defeat against Brighton and Hove in the league means Arsenal are now ninth on the league table with 41 points in 30 games.

Arsenal was unlucky in the game with their first-choice goalkeeper, Bernd Leno suffering season ending knee injury.

Bernd Leno collides with Brighton attacker Neal Maupay and he was stretchered off in the first half.

Following Leno’s injury, Emiliano was introduced between the stick and Arsenal took the lead in the second half through Nicholas Pepe.

The Seagulls leveled with 15 minutes to go and Neal Maupay steal the three points at the death of the game.

Following the defeat, Arsenal has now lost eight games this season with most coming on the road.

Arsenal is 11points behind Chelsea who is in fourth on the table on 51 points having played one game less.

The North Londoners are currently having a torrid campaign with some of their key players out injured.

The likes of Granit Xhaka, Pablo Mari, and now Bernd Leno is unlikely to participate in the league again this season.

If the Gunners failed to qualify for Champions League for another season, it will negatively affect the team financial status.

The Londoners are currently negotiating a long-term deal with striker Aubameyang and young midfielder Bukayo Saka.

Aubameyang has just over a year before his current deal run out and the Gabonese is one of the key figures at the club with 20 goals for the Gunners this season.

Arsenal are hopeful of tying Saka and Aubameyang to a new deal while also pursuing the signature of Partey to Athletico Madrid.
