The Endsars campaign is taking a new dimension as hundreds of youths have taken to the street to protest what has been tagged Police Brutality against the people.
Yesterday protesters storm the Lagos State Secretariate to tender their grievance. The protesters also set up tents that were later brought down by the Lagos state government.
Endsars campaign which started on social media has now snowballed into open protests in major streets, towns, and cities across Nigeria, inclusive of the Federal Capital Territory.
Nigerians are calling for the buhari led Federal Government to disband the Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (Sars) over it incessant killings and wanton kidnapping and extortion of youths across the country.
Various celebrity and well-meaning Nigerians home and abroad have lent their voice to the Endsars protest. The Endsars campaign has gone global as it is currently the top trend in Nigeria and other countries like the UK and the United state of America.
However, back at home Nigerians have lashed out at the Lagos State Commissioner for Youths and Social Development over his comments. The Commissioner Mr. Segun Dawodu, on Thursday, during a virtual youth dialogue on peace and conflict resolution organized by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development.
Said youths should channel their energy into productive activities as they are pivotal actors in the achievement of peace and sustainable development in the country.
Dawodu observed that because conflict as a form of human character cannot be wished away, it is essential to address conflicting issues and resolve them effectively before they escalate into violence, abuse, or war.
He further enjoined youths to avoid idleness, and key into the entrepreneurship drive of the State as well as agriculture, saying “an idle hand is the devil’s workshop”.
Nigerians have lashed out at the Commissioner for not standing true to what his ministry represents. Instead of the Commissioner of Youth to lend his voice to the Endsars campaign, he is doing the otherwise.
