Duoye Diri Remains Bayelsa’s Governor Despite Court Ruling, Here is the Reason.
Duoye Diri will remain as the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State despite Monday’s tribunal ruling that sacked him from the office.
This is because the decision of the tribunal is a first instance judgement and it is not final. The governor still has the chance to file an appeal even up to the supreme court of Nigeria.
However, Governor Douye Diri has announced that he has filed an appeal immediately to challenge the decision of the tribunal. He disclosed that he still has confidence in the judiciary and he has instructed his lawyer to file an appeal.
If the governor had accepted the decision of the tribunal without appeal, he will be removed from office and another election will be conducted as ordered by the tribunal.
The Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Monday sacked Douye Diri as the Governor of the state and ordered fresh election on the ground that the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party was unlawfully excluded from participating in the election that happened last year’s November.
