A popular Nigerian newspaper, The PUNCH, has released another cartoon about the current situation in the country. Today’s edition shows that the country is on fire.
The picture shows Nigeria’s map on fire while herdsmen and some politicians are fueling the fire.
The cartoon is motivated by the current political discourse in the country, especially the ban on open grazing by Southern Governors. The ban on open grazing has divided the country. Southerners said they would not go back on the decision while Northerners insisted that the ban on open grazing is illegal and unconstitutional.
The Minister for Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, recently opined that the ban on open grazing in the South is synonymous with banning spare parts traders in the North.
The country is also facing different secessionist threats in the Southern part of the country. The call for Oduduwa and Biafra Republics is gaining momentum on a daily basis. This is the reason why Punch designed the cartoon showing Nigeria on fire.
The cartoon has generated different reactions on social media. While some commended the cartoonist, others blasted PUNCH newspaper for posting the picture.
