Boko Haram jihadist has struck again at the convoy of the Borno state government killing more than five security officials.
The convoy was conveying officials of the Borno state government traveling to Baga were ambushed and attacked near Monguno town on Friday.
According to reports an unspecific amount of security officials lost their lives and an Armoured Personnel Carrier belonging to the police as well as state government vehicles were reportedly hijacked in the attack.
The officials were journeying to Baga, where Governor Babagana Zulum is expected to receive returning IDPs. Governor Zulum had flown in an Airforce chopper to Baga earlier today, where he performed the Friday prayers with troops.
The governor is expected to receive about three thousand civilians who will be transported from IDP camps both in Maiduguri and Monguno on Saturday.
The Friday Boko Haram attack on the government convoy is the second of it’s kind and has caused serious concern. Earlier in July, the convoy of the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, narrowly escaped a Boko Haram attack in Baga town.
Following the earlier attack on the governor’s convoy in July, the angry governor confronted the army expressing his disappointment at the inability of the military to rid Baga and environs of insurgents.
